Z. L. Feng – Radford, VA

I like to use watercolor to be the sole creator of each of my paintings. Watercolor is very challenging and difficult to control. It’s hard to cover your mistakes and you ca’t change too much, but this medium adds lots of fun to painting. I use Arches and Lana( French paper), to wet the paper first. Then, I use a large brush, wet on wet, wetting the first several layers. I use the top brand watercolor pigments to continue layering the colors, washing, and wet on dry, and other kinds of watercolor techniques, until I get the fine detailed result that I want to achieve.
My subject matter originates from real life, images from my memory, and my creative imagination. I first do a series of sketches. Then I develop my painting and fine-tune it, until finally the result is a finished watercolor.
