The French use the term “Papier Collé” in describing the method I use to create my paper paintings. These “glued paper” collages are constructed using various kinds of fine art papers and much of the paper I hand stain using acrylic paints and inks. When dry, the paper is torn, cut or shredded into smaller pieces that I use to “paint” with building layer upon layer until my image emerges. Several of my pieces have a “bas-relief” or low raised surface because of the many layers of paper. When finished the painting surface is sealed and protected with varnish while still leaving the absorbing surface texture that you want to reach out and touch. From a simple flower to a magical landscape each unique 2D paper painting collage expresses a message of hope and possibilities.
