Carlye Crisler - Ann Arbor, MI

Even though Carlye Crisler’s art has ranged from portraits to dolls to welded “anthropological figures,” she says that her time running the costume shop at the Power Center has influenced it all: “Everything I do has a theatrical slant. And it’s always evolving.” Her latest project sprang from a welding class: steel and bronze figures with interchangeable heads and jewelry. She gives them all a weathered patina and interesting ethnic tones, from hats to antlers to medieval headdresses, and also makes their jewelry.
