My name is Vesna. I am a metal artist from Ann Arbor, Michigan which is where I also run my workshop, MadMax Metalworks.

All of my pieces start as new sheets of 18 or 14 gauge steel. The steel is then cleaned and set outdoors to rust naturally. I don’t use and paints or patinas, my ingredients are only air and water. It’s a very clean and natural process and I believe this lets the steel decide what it wants to do and that my control of it is strictly passive.

On some pieces I will lay fabric, real leaves, or paper during the rusting process to create a variety of designs. I then plasma-cut shapes into the steel and pull them out from the base to create my dimensional effect. Lastly, the piece is seal coated to retard the rusting process.

From the conception to the completion, all the work is done by me. I honestly put my heart and sweat into each one. I don’t believe in using rulers or pre-drawn designs so every piece is an improvisation; each one becomes more about emotion than precision. Each one promises to be matchless.

I take great pride in producng work that is beautiful, one of a kind and certainly eye-catching. Work that is sure to start a conversation, as I believe, all art should.
