Yourist Studio Community

Yourist Studio Community has been evolving since 1984. At that time the studio was called “Yourist Pottery Design“. A 450 square foot house on Packard street that served as a studio in the back and a gallery in the front. Kay did all of the glazing and clay recycling in the basement and managed to make that small studio work for 16 years. Teaching became an additional part of Kay’s livelihood. As her student population grew, so did the number of pottery wheels and the Packard street studio appeared to be busting at the seams.
In 2000 the studio moved to Broadway street and again in 2004 just across the street to a large open space that accommodates all of the different aspects of Yourist Studio Gallery.

The idea behind Works of Man has evolved past me. It started with a love of architecture, construction, and possibilities. A love of materials brought titanium into the mix, which much be mechanically worked (cold working, rivets, piercing, layers and layers, lots of hand fabrication and construction). As I’ve grown, a bit of philosophy about the world around me has crept in as well.

Motivation is a premium specialty boutique located in Ann Arbor, Michigan right on the University of Michigan’s campus. Co-owned by Dj Mick Boogie, we opened our doors in October 2007 as one of the state’s only specialty boutiques to cater to streetwear fashion and culture. We carry apparel for both men and women that is creative, cutting edge, and influential. The brands we stock are hand-selected and very limited in distribution; they are largely independent and not found in traditional retail outlets.
Thanks to a fiercely loyal customer base and a series of in-store musical events with the likes of Lupe Fiasco, Talib Kweli, Estelle, and many others, we acheived rapid growth in our first year in business. With Mick Boogie, we released a number of mixtapes to a worldwide audience including the Graduate mixtape with Kanye West and our co-branded “Motivation” series of mixtapes which also feature Dj Benzi. We are now recognized amongst the top specialty boutiques in the Midwest, and aim to further our reach with our 2009 expansion online.
